The three stages of a new construction roof
- Dry-in: Immediately after framing, underlayment, ice and water shield, and drip edge go over the sheathing to make the build weathertight. Choosing the right roofing system
Most Ontario residential builds use one of three systems:
- Architectural asphalt shingles — the standard for new construction. Cost-effective, widely available, and eligible for registered Owens Corning warranties.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to roof a new construction home? Typically 1–2 days for asphalt and 2–3 days for standing seam metal on a standard 1,500–2,000 sq ft home. Dry-in can often be done the same day framing finishes.
How far ahead should a builder book a roofer? In peak season (April–October), 2–4 weeks for single-unit builds and 4–8 weeks for multi-unit developments. The earlier a roofer is looped into your build calendar, the better the schedule aligns.
